Danial "Dino" Pick, Vice Chair
Dino Pick retired from the U.S. Army in 2014 after 29 years in uniform. He served as Commandant of the Defense Language Institute as his final assignment. Dino served as a municipal government leader for six years, first as Deputy City Manager of Monterey, then as City Manager of Del Rey Oaks. He currently serves as Director of International Programs at the Naval Postgraduate School. As Airport Board Director for Division 5, he represents Pebble Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and portions of Carmel Valley.
Dino is a passionate advocate for our young service men and women who study in Monterey at DLI and NPS and their families. His service with both the City of Monterey and Del Rey Oaks gives him a unique perspective into the public safety, fire prevention, and land-use issues in the community. Dino currently serves as Vice Chair on the Monterey Regional Airport Board, and serves on the Regional Taxi Authority. He is Chair of the Big Sur Marathon Foundation Board, Past President of the Rotary Club of Monterey, and past Commodore of the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club.
Dino holds degrees from the University of Washington, the Marine Corps University, and Princeton University. He was a National Security Affairs Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He speaks several Middle Eastern languages.
Dino and Karen first moved to the Monterey Peninsula to study Arabic in 1995. They returned to DLI in 2008 and stayed after retirement from the Army. Their two adult children call Monterey home.
