Noise Policy Statement Roles & Responsibilities

At the Monterey Regional Airport, we are committed to transparent communication and responsible engagement with our community regarding noise concerns, within the boundaries of federal regulations.

Noise Policy

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Air Traffic Control (ATC) oversee the safe and efficient management of the National Airspace System. As such, ATC and pilots retain final authority over aircraft operations, including flight paths and schedules. The FAA’s role includes designing standard air traffic procedures, prioritizing safety, capacity, and efficient traffic flow management. Our airport operates 24 hours a day and we encourage users to follow our noise management recommendation; however, we have no legal authority to control when airlines or aircraft choose to fly. The Airport does not have authority to direct air traffic or  the authority to implement curfews to restrict air traffic.

We are dedicated to documenting and responding to community noise comments to foster transparency and public understanding. This process involves acknowledging concerns, providing factual information, and educating the public on FAA policies and noise management practices.
